The Brazilian listened to his family over his peers
to decide to join Barcelona and says the prospect of playing alongside
Lionel Messi is an honour
Neymar has revealed that the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka and Marcelo tried unsuccessfully to convince him to join Real Madrid over Barcelona this summer. The 21-year-old Santos star opted to join the Catalan club over the capital-based Liga giants in May having chosen to listen to the advice of his family instead of his fellow players.
"Ronaldo, Kaka, Marcelo... Lots of people said I should sign for Real," he told Marca.
"But, in the end, I made a decision which I discussed a lot with my family and I'm very happy with the path I've chosen to play in Europe."
Neymar also reiterated his excitement at the move to Camp Nou, where he will try to adapt quickly, saying it would be a privilege to play alongside four-time Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi.
"I'll try to adapt to my new team as soon as possible so I can play at my top level from the start," he added.
"It's an honour to be able to play with Messi. I'm very happy; it's all very special."
Neymar is expected to feature in Brazil's friendly with England on Sunday.
